Recruiting Millennials in Higher Education

About Us

Howdy!

A few months ago we launched a little tool to help admissions counselors communicate and convert prospects into applicants. We noticed that there was a lot of interest in marketing strategies for the millennial generation, so we decided to start this blog to share the tips and tricks we have learned to communicate with this new Internet-baby generation.

Today’s incoming college freshmen are millennials (Generation Y). They were born the same year as the Internet, have never rented a VHS from Blockbuster and seeing Jaws didn’t make them afraid to go swimming. They’ve never known a world without computers.

We quickly realized the traditional ways of recruiting students are no longer effective by themselves. We frequently post tips on alternatives, using the technology that Millennials have grown up with.

In addition to this blog, twice a month we host webinars on how to  conduct a web chat. You can register or look at the schedule at our site.

The Writers

University WebChat offers a web-based chat service so that admissions officers can chat live with prospective students without the need to install any special software. Most of our team is comprised of former university IT managers and staffers who got tired of hard-to-install, expensive and complicated web chat software.

Chris Steins has 10 years of experience working in higher education and information technology with a focus on software for increasing retention rates in higher education. He is a member of the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals and the founder of University WebChat. He formerly worked for both the University of Southern California and University of California, Los Angeles.

Justin Emond is the former Manager of IT for the USC School of Theatre and a Senior Project Manager at University Web Chat.

Jacob Bear had an email account when he attended college. He disabled his IM service because he found it annoying.

Cate Miller is the Operations Manager at University Web Chat. She also runs her own blog Bobotown, chronicling adorable animal antics.
